Drafting on day Three
Today, a former UNCG student named Katie visited us (through Sykpe). She told of her desire to see the world to gain perspective, her experience at UNCG and her path leading to writing short stories. After reading one of her stories about a girl with the chicken pox and the happiness she felt due to the attention she gain from her worried parents, students started asking question about why would anyone be happy about being sick. It is the reason to be noticed, to feel that someone, especially your parents, actually cares for you. When you are sick, they do what they can to make you feel well again, as well as giving treats and the attention to ensure your health will return. To me, the girl from the story just wants to spend time with her parents, to see the true faces of their love for her. On the other hand, she is greedy and enjoys her parents waiting on her hand and foot. As for the students’ process in their books, they are doing very well. Some have drawn pictures for their illustrations, some are asking teachers for advice or just telling them their stories so far. One kid is researching his favorite author, J.K. Rowling, for information and inspiration. You already hear the voices as they type each word, from time travel to shrinking suns, from adventurous pirates to a day on the beach. These stories are coming to life.
