Mission: Wings
by Abby At first the government was intimidated by me, now they’re just annoyed. After they got past the giant, bright teal dragon wings, they realized I was just an awkward fourteen year old girl who plays the cello and loves sloths. They also thought it would be a great idea to send me on missions… Using time travel. I thought they were completely kidding, but nope, they want a girl with dragon wings to go back in time. Or forward in time. My name is Charlotte Anders, and I’m a time traveling fourteen year old with wings. |
Metal Memories
by Alyssa Running away sounds like the cliche thing to do when you're mad at your parents, but actually doing it is a completely different story. Three teenagers spend a week planning how they would runaway, which included purposely getting themselves expelled, sneaking around at night, and a secret drawer of maps. |
Ancient Greece
by Annalisa The Athena Parthenos stood at 40 ft tall, made of gold and ivory; it towered over all who came to see it. This truly intimidating and impressive statue was placed in the newly finished Parthenon. “Must be your finest work,” a local commented. Phidias only smiled. He had gotten that compliment too many times to count. He looked up at his creation. The Athena Parthenos seemed to stare down at him. He felt a rush of pride just looking at it. The Parthenon had been finished just about a month ago. The Athena Parthenos was unveiled days ago. No doubt it would please Athena for generations to come. The goddess of wisdom was sure to reward Athens for their hard work. |

War's Call
by Jennings The year was 1941. The second great war had been raging for 2 years now and more people were dying every day. I was lucky, until the bombs came. They fell like rain from the blackness above. I woke to the sound of the air raid sirens screaming in the distance. Anti-aircraft guns blasted at the targets that the huge spot lights found, gliding through the dark night. I lept out of bed and ran outside to the metal safe house next to the potato field. Then the bombs began to fall. First it was the distant drone of boom, boom, boom. Then the sound got louder and louder, closer and closer. The bombs were dropping in the field right next to my house. I closed my eyes and exhaustion overcame me as I fought to sleep. |
The Secret Cave

The Fallout
by Lauren I sat down with my book in hand talking to myself saying that today would be different, I would get let out today. Now I've said that every day since I woke up approximately 29 days ago (I've been putting up tally marks every time I woke up or the clock beeped). After I sat down and started to read I heard a knock on the door or so I thought, but I just passed it off as some random crap blowing against the door. I drew my quilt towards me and shivered; why couldn’t I have some kind of heat!? |

Here or There
by Madeline Meredith McArthur had always been able to see the strange, almost monstrous creatures. As a toddler, she often confused her parents with questions of “mommy, what’s that?” as she pointed to a park bench, or an empty field, but soon her parents began to laugh off her descriptions of the hundreds of different creatures she saw every day, thinking it was ‘just her imagination- nothing but a game’. But, as Meredith grew older, her parents began to question her sanity. |
My Time Watching through the Screen
by Mattea Signs of dystopia littered the streets. People strolling along crosswalks, completely consumed in their phones. Friends clustered together, leaning on the course brick wall of a drug store, cool sodas fizzing away in their lifeless hands. Even the refreshing relief from the stereo typical summer day, paled in comparison to the appeal of the social media. Reckless parents hardly aware of their own budding youths, still untouched by the pang of screen obsession, bombarded the roads with loud honks and flickering devices. Even a quiet public park held little refuge from the poisonous drug of cell phones. The infectious disease that plagued our city. North Hemp stead New York would never be the same. |
A Picturesque Murder
by Meera I was driving only at 40 mph when the limit was 35 mph on a nice summer evening, my window was down and the cool, summer breeze hits my face. This dude came in front of me 'cause I was going to slow for his taste. It looked like he was drunk so I pulled over to let him pass me. But you know, he stopped, came out of his car and I realized it was a person I went to college with, Brian. |

The Beginning
by Rachel America is divided into four parts for “filtering the local community” (or from a more realistic standpoint, destroying unwanted waste to start from scratch; as in all people who choose to surrender to BL/ind are taken, and all others are killed in some sort of way.) Lithuania is a young woman, desperate to escape, located in the southwest. This section is dealt with by setting ablaze all major cities through bombing and collecting fleeing rebelers and either killing or sedating, brainwashing, and/or memory erasing them into loyal BL/ind citizens and servers. |
Since Then
by Rachel Sometimes I look up at the sky I wonder if someone is looking back, maybe if I talk to the moon, whomever is on the other side would talk back. I get lonely now, and it’s never really bothered me before, guess I never had time to think about it. But now I have time, I have so much… too much time. And now I have time to wonder, to think and dream- but brains don’t quite work like I wish they would, mine especially. Constantly leaning towards those few subjects that create a feeling, a feeling of realization that it’s not the same. I mean everyone suffers from change, everyone sheds their tears and fondle their memories, but my kind of change is different and my memories just won’t let me grab them. Though I can’t say my brain has that much room to explore, I don’t remember much. I should start off with something about myself: I’m blind. Both blind because my eyes have been selfish jerks since I was born and have refused to allow me to enjoy life’s wondrous sights, and blind because the real world- is a world I’ll never truly understand. |
The Unexpected
by Samantha I could hear them behind me. They were getting closer. I had to make a decision. I looked in front of me. I was at the edge of a cliff. Down below was a lake, and I had no idea how deep it was. It was about a twenty foot drop, so I had a good chance of dying. I looked at my side. Matt stood right beside me. He was always there, but it was still comforting to know that he was with me. His sandy blonde hair and dark grey eyes seemed to always comfort me. I could hear them getting closer now. I had to make a decision. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. I brushed one of my blue and blonde curls behind my ear. I grabbed Matt’s hand and jumped. |
On My Way to Somewhere
by Savanna I had 60 years and 2 months left to live. At least, that’s what my clock said this morning when I checked it before heading to the airport. This morning, I was considered one of the lucky ones, one of the people with enough time to fulfill my dreams and goals. Some people would disagree, and wish there was more time, but truly I think everyone would rather live forever if they could. They want to see it all, do it all, but personally I choose to live in the moment and enjoy the time I have, because there is absolutely nothing I can do to alter fate. 79 years of life should be more than enough time to complete my bucket list; travel to all 7 continents, go skydiving, and write a book, all of these opening new worlds to me or others. |
Venus Prime

Bella clutched her superhero comic she had drawn when she was nine in the other hand, she kept it around to feel more normal. Less like a freak. |

Not Yet Free
by Trey It started out like any other day. I woke up with bags under my eyes from watching the game all last night, ate breakfast, turned on the TV. It had been left on the news channel from last night when my dad was watching it. I was about to turn the channel when something on the screen caught my eye. On the screen I saw a heading that read “Alton Sterling killed by police in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.” I was in shock. I started remembering past killings like Eric Garner in 2014, Mike Brown in 2014, and Trayvon Martin in 2012. I thought about how many black people have been shot and killed by police in the past 30 years. |
