Young Writers Camp
Spoken Word 2019

By: Sophie Wang

Poetry is my life between the lines.
A magical world of words
Absolute freedom
Emotions becoming concrete
Hidden feelings discovered
One line at a time

Poem 1
I love making comic books because it is fun and funny
I love to draw the pictures and the writing so call me an author

Poem 2
I am an author
Always moving forward
I like writing my comics
Sometimes I spell my words wrong in my comic
Making my comics is my life
So I am an author
Comic is my freedom

The Pen
Something is missing
Something in my house
Clicking in my brothers room
That he is writing on
It has ink in it
Every time he hides it from me
Do you know what it is?

The Tree
Trees give people oxygen
Trees give animals food
Trees give people paper
Trees give us plants
Trees make me happy to climb them
Trees give us food
What I feel is happy because I love climbing on the trees

My Fear

It has eight eyes
We use webs for Halloween
It is quiet
It lives everywhere
It is scary but it’s good for us
It looks like a bad guy
It’s dark
It feels like pointy
It use silk
It is fat

What I See
Pole is hard
Fountain is liquid
Table is metal
Chair is metal
Wind is gas
Tree is healthy for us
Mulch is good for plants
Waves in the pool
Plants in the bowl
Grass in the ground
Building made out of brick
Clock on the small house
Bench made out of wood
Water in the fountain
Gatorade what I’m drinking
Brick is rock
Pen is plastic
Earbuds in my teacher ears
Of course I see humans

Field of life
Life is hard for us
Life is not easy
Writing is not easy
When I first time when I swim it was hard for me
Life is never easy my goal is to the problem
You also need to work hard to solve the problem
To get your wish come true

Walking In My Shoes
If you walk in my size 4 you can feel I’m creative.
There are some days I move faster than others because I’m unfocused.
I am a fast runner with my shoes.           Always moving toward the sun. I try to train them but it doesn’t work.

I want to see my shoes upgrade.

Lace them up tight because it will collapse.

But these are my shoes and this is my life.

The Road
I see it is brick
It is straight
It is smooth
We can use it for walking
Something that we can drive on
It has webs
It is rough
It has different colors.

YOUNG WRITERS CAMP
SPOKEN WORD 2019
By Jackson Buchanan

Poetry Is…

Poetry is my life between the lines
A magical world of words
Absolute freedom
Emotions becoming concrete
Hidden feelings discovered
One line at a time

Jackson

Scared
but
Reassuring

Literal
but
Creative

Flying
but
Falling

Weak
but
Strong

My Five Senses

I hear Roaring, Romping sounds of engines Ripping across
Until Peace

I taste the smoky sour taste of a cranky automobile
The spicy taste of music beats makes a topping for anything

Grass tickles and pricks my fragile legs
A soft breeze grazes me and shakes myself about

I see a partial city skyline housing people,
A bustling people
United over a city

I smell the emptiness of the room
A scentless candles masking all other scents
Good
or
Bad

I AM ART (Prompted Poem)

I am an artist
Always moving with my art
Sometimes too much
My art is my life
So I always keep drawing
ART

Good, Bad: Diamante

Good
Happy, Great
Living, Breathing, Smile
Life, Peace Weapon, Death
Dying, Drowning, Frown
Sad, Evil
Bad

Natural Treehouse

Old tree,
How do you see?
Without eyes
With your head in the skies?
May I climb your branches with ease?
Please, Pretty Please?

Insomnia

my fear is soft and tired
tastes like stinging eyes on feathers
i take in smells of dark and shaky
shadows cold as i shiver is what i see
sounds of breathing and heavy silence

Water Aerobics

I have a miniature ocean
in front of me (splash)
All mighty beast beneath
my feet (splash)
Splashing up a current
up onto itself (splash)
never safe
never sound
(splash)

Water Aerobics (from a birds eye view)

More water
Yet not a fountain
this time
a
WATERFALL
Never ending
Somehow always
Flowing
Not slow but rather
Fast
Bubbling the water below
An even louder splash
Shaking the pond

Rippling waves forcing
to stop
when anxious to move

Walk in my Shoes

If you walk a mile in my size 6 you can feel
My thoughts
There are some days I move faster than others because
I’m tired
My shoes are
White Nike AIRS or my other Nikes which are ugly.
And on some days I find myself
barefoot and you can always find me in the couch.
I am an artist
Always moving toward something creative.
I try to succeed
But sometimes I fail
Most wouldn’t make it through a day in my shoes
But try them on anyway
I want you to see my art
I want you to experience my thoughts
I want you to understand me
Lace them up tight because they’ll fall off otherwise
You might have to cry in my shoes
But these are my shoes and this is my life

A Path for People not Machines

An endless path built
for people
NOT MACHINES
Pave our way
across life
the ups
the
            downs
this path
has no limits
no matter the weather
it stays
OPEN
Toughs out the storm for us
THE ROAD

The Field of Life (The Soccer Field of Life)

On The field of life you’re always the underdog
Think about a
Soccer field
Goal, Obstacles Opponents and teammates
Teammates can become opponents
Sometimes you’ll win
Sometimes you’ll lose
We all have different goals
Some BIG
some small
Sometimes we score
And hit it off rich
Sometimes we’ll miss
And find only despair
But there’s always next game
Win or Lose
People will be people
Some will leave but most will stay
And if you try as hard as you can
YOU’LL PROBABLY WIN
